Connecting academics to real world issues has never been more essential.
The process of service learning adds purpose as students transform knowledge and skills into genuine community impact. The Educators Consortium for Service Learning exists to support you in your journey to inspire your students, and generate compassionate life-long learners and passionate changemakers.
Why do schools join ECSL? For over 30 years, ECSL, a volunteer-run nonprofit, has consistently nurtured a K-12 educators network including administrators, parents and community partners. Our exceptional professional development workshops have focused on what matters now: social responsibility, experiential learning, DEIJ and planet sustainability. Educators come for guidance, inspiration, reassurance, resources, and even comfort as they empower their students by emphasizing inquiry, critical thinking, problem solving, innovation, collaboration, civic responsibility and global perspective.
Through service learning, students discover their individual and collective voice. They see a way to be part of needed solutions, and step up with empathy and awareness. They internalize a means for moving their ideas forward combining academic tools with practical life skills. Their ideas, when we listen, add a “wow” factor to classrooms that show clearly their desire and abilities to engage now.
With today’s great demands on teachers and higher expectations of schools, often with fewer resources, the value added opportunities provided by ECSL stimulate students to meet and even exceed academic expectations.
Always engaging, consistently memorable, ECSL’s professional enrichment guides educators to “weave in” rather than “add on” service learning experiences by offering:
……professional development curricula resources, materials, books, teaching tools, and publications
…… participation for up to ten representatives per membership school at live and virtual workshops
……professional peer-to-peer networking, locally and globally
……innovative ideas
……basic to advanced interactive workshops led by top international consultants
……pop-up zoom-gatherings open to global participants address current pressing needs ranging from; fire disaster preparation and recovery to honest conversations about local and global conflicts.
……collaboration opportunities between schools, teachers, and students
……motivating expert speakers and guest authors
……certificate of participation for attending all three in-person events
……technology training, global zoom conversations and webinars
.….. annual newsletter and ECSL Passport
…… links to organizations from our local community to global network
……. 24/7 “Ask ECSL” support for questions, needs and connections
The result: a strong network of passionate like-minded educators, administrators, students, parents and organizations transforming learning to community action.
